iPIC3D pilot successfully ported to the AllScale API/SDK

The core components of the iPIC3D pilot were successfully ported to the AllScale API/SDK !

The algorithmic part of the iPIC3D code covers four steps:

  • the projection of particle properties to the grid nodes
  • the solution of force-field equations over those grid nodes
  • the application of those forces on the involved particles
  • and finally the movement of particles in space

In order to tailor these parts for the task-based nested recursive parallelism, we redefined the numerical scheme of the current iPIC3D pilot. Our major effort was on the following two components:

  1. The field solver for the Maxwell’s equation
  2. The particles mover for the equation of motion
